The Omnitrix



The Omnitrix is a mysterious watch like device that enables the user, in this case Ben 10, to bind their DNA codes together to create an alien creature. The alien form is selected by unlocking the control dial, turning the control dial to the desired alien species which is displayed on the Omnitrix's display, and then pressing the control dial back into place thus completing the transformation of alien creature. 

The Omnitrix was created by Azmuth who originally created it as a way of helping aliens to be tolerant of each other by letting them walk in each other’s shoes. However this back fired when aliens such as the evil Vilgax started to see the Omnitrix as a weapon of great power to be wielded against others. To prevent this from happening Azmuth puts in place several safeguards to ensure that whoever used the Omnitrix would not have full access to its powers. These safeguards include transforming into an alien different from the one that is selected on the control dial, the ten minute auto time-out, the restriction of only ten accessible aliens, and a self-destruct mechanism.  However, these safeguards can be disabled once the ‘Master Control’ for the Omnitrix is unlocked, which is done by a random combination of selections on the control dial. Once the ‘Master Control’ is unlocked, the user can stay in their alien form indefinitely and is also able to switch between alien forms at will. The Omnitrix can also absorb DNA samples from other alien creatures simply by coming in to contact with them.   

Who is Ben 10?

While on summer holiday with his Grandpa Max and Cousin Gwen, Ben Tennyson found a mysterious watch like device we later find out is called the Omnitrix. Most boys of Ben’s age (10 years) would act in the same way as Ben did as they too would be overcome with curiosity and like him would have put the Omnitrix on as well. As soon as the Omnitrix was on Ben’s hand he found it imposable to take it off for not only was it cool but it had become fastened to his wrist. Ben then discovers how the Omnitrix can alter his DNA and gives him the ability turn himself into 10 other alien creatures the likes of which never before seen on Earth. Throughout the course of the ‘Ben 10’ series we follow Ben on his adventures towards becoming a superhero.
